La Cazalla is one of the most beautiful, peaceful places in the Serrania de Ronda. From its quiet entrance, at the end of a track, just outside the old town of Ronda, the ancient, oak-forested hills rise in front of the finca and the dramatic cliffs of the Tajo Del Abanico, the Gorge of the Fan, mark the southern end of the Ronda valley.
The area around La Cazalla has barely changed since the Romans, and later the Moors, inhabited it. Once here, a feeling of peace prevails, the sounds of insects buzzing, the birds singing, the bells jangling on the goats in the forest and the breeze rustling the leaves on the trees. It is difficult to spot any other sign of human life, and yet, the sense that man has lived in this valley for thousands of years is very strong.
For guests, the wonderful thing about this quiet location is that the moment you reach the top of the track, in less than 10 minutes you are amid the hustle and bustle of the oldest part of Ronda, with its stunning vistas, picturesque architecture and winding streets full of restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Nearby, the pretty ‘Peublos Blancos’, white villages, make for a wonderful, scenic drive, and further afield, the cities of Granada, Seville and Cordoba are all around 2 hours drive from Ronda, perfectly feasible as day trips to discover the heart of Andalucía. In the opposite direction, 45 minutes away on the Mediterranean coast, lies the glitz and glamour of Marbella and Puerto Banus.
The area around Ronda offers a multitude of outdoor activities, hiking and biking both being very popular, as well as mountain climbing, canoeing, birding, horse riding, paragliding, tennis and, on the coast, golf.
La Cazalla was rebuilt 15 years ago from the old farm buildings that stood here, and has featured in many magazines, including Conde Nast Traveller and Casa y Campo. It is now available during the summer for families and groups of friends of up to 12 people, who wish to have the entire property to themselves, or at other times of the year for couples who want to enjoy a stay in one of its romantic casitas.
Carefully and stylishly restored, using many ancient artefacts from the original buildings, La Cazalla offers flexible accommodation with five large and airy bedrooms all with ensuite facilities in the ‘Casa Principal’, plus a private suite ‘El Nido’, with its own entrance and courtyard. The house is cool and spacious, with many different areas for a large group to spread out and relax, read, play card games, watch a film or listen to music. And yes, there is WiFi! Outside there are so many different spots to choose from, you’ll be hard pressed deciding what to do – read in the lounge chairs on the terrace, dine under the vine covered pergola, swim and snooze at the pool, look for tadpoles in the stream, stroll along to the XII century ‘alberca’, or water cistern, or take a drink up to the old threshing circle and watch the sun change the colours of the gorge from orange to pink, an maybe catch a glimpse of the deer as the owls start hooting.
We want our guests at La Cazalla to feel like they are staying in a secluded, private retreat, where they are completely at home, but with a few of the perks of staying in an hotel – beautiful bed linen and towels, daily maid service and a gardener who takes care of the pool and the grounds.
Whatever the needs of your party, please let us know, and we will do our utmost to ensure a memorable stay.
